Ahhhhhh, the great American road trip. It's a rite of passage for any family to pack their suitcases, get in the car and see that special something you can't find at home. And while that may look a little different in 2020, there are many ways you can still take a trip and be safe.
Here in Fairfax County there are many companies that take the extra precautions and we are ready to welcome you whenever you need to travel. And because Virginia is great, destinations across the state have banded together to designate road trip worthy destinations for anyone wanting to explore our sites. The campaign is called WanderLove, and a safe fall road trip to Northern Virginia is just a tank of gas away. Here are some of the things you'll find when you visit Fairfax County.
Viewing autumn leaves
The fall leaves are about to burst into full fall glory in some of the most beautiful locations in the province. It's the perfect way to get out and breathe the fresh air and let the amazing colors soothe your soul.
Craft breweries with outdoor terraces
One of my favorite things to do when I visit anywhere is to check out the local breweries and distilleries. I think this is a great way to experience an authentic local atmosphere, as well as a way to get a legitimately good drink. There's nothing like coming home and telling all your jealous friends about that & # 39; perfect & # 39; beer that they cannot drink unless they try it for themselves. And while the weather is getting a little cooler, the warm autumn days provide a great atmosphere to socialize with a beer and breathe in some fresh air. Our breweries' beer patios are open for business and serve unique beer to go home and brag about.
Historic sites with outdoor spaces
If you're looking to get into some of Northern Virginia's rich history while wanting to relax and stay socially distant, we've got some great options for you. Our historic sites are well equipped with plenty of outdoor space to get out and explore. Our historic sites have upped their cleaning protocols for those who feel comfortable enough to venture into their museums or for those who want to pop in for a moment. And fall is the perfect time to see the sites as the fall hues of the leaves create majestic visuals and the perfect sweater weather makes it a breeze to spend the day on the property without worrying about being too hot .
Fairfax County is home to two award-winning wineries, Paradise Springs and The Winery at Bull Run. Each offers unique outdoor tasting experiences, making it a fun and relaxing environment to spend a day or evening. Each location has the option to reserve your own private space on site so social distance isn't an issue, and each location also offers food options and entertainment to keep you fed and happy. So stop by, get a drink, and take home a bottle (or two!).
Despite Fairfax County being so close to Washington, DC, we pride ourselves on having tens of thousands of acres of parks to explore. And many of our parks offer great hiking, which is always a popular activity when looking for perfect fall foliage adventures. If you're looking for a short excursion to say hello to Mother Nature, but still want all the amenities of an urban destination at your fingertips, Fairfax County is the place for you.
We hope to see you here this fall, and if you find a special place that you think other travelers should know, make sure to share it on your social media channels via the #FXVA hashtag and tag us in your post. We love to see people have fun here and we can even show your adventures on our own social media feeds. Stay safe everyone, remember to wear a mask or face cover indoors, and adhere to current Virginia safety guidelines when traveling.
